An inclusive community
The community of students here at Appalachian is one of a kind. Our students are constantly engaged in campus and global leadership, service opportunities, the arts, and recreational activities through our more than 400 student organizations. If you are the kind of student who wants to get involved, there is no better place.
A sustainable way of life
An ethic of sustainability resounds through campus and Boone, as evident through an electricity-generating wind turbine, a commitment to making new buildings efficiently designed and LEED® certified, a biodiesel-powered public transportation system, and research and academic programs that focus on energy and the environment.
Accounting, dance, education, fermentation sciences and sustainable technology are just a few of the 150 programs offered at Appalachian. Our academic advisors and award-winning faculty will ensure that you on your way to wherever you want to be in the world, so that you can live and learn like a Mountaineer.
Scholarship & research
Each year Appalachian awards more than $4 million in merit scholarships. Appalachian is also the home of several selective scholarship programs that offer more than just money for college – they provide leadership opportunities and mentorship in connecting student ambitions to significant impacts on either a local or global scale. Additionally, Appalachian’s Office of Student Research provides more than $100,000 in grants each year to support their undergraduate research. The opportunity to work alongside a professor on a research project goes beyond instruction and gives valuable experience for jobs and graduate school.
As an Appalachian student, internships will help expand your skills and competencies. Appalachian’s Office of Career Services has resources for professional development, internship opportunities and career searching for students as they browse full-time, part-time, local, national, on-campus, seasonal internship and job opportunities.
