Enroll for Fall Courses (Optional but Recommended)

While not required, we recommend enrolling at a local community college during the fall to stay on track for your bachelor’s degree. Check out Transfer Admissions & Engagement's transition resources below to ensure your fall courses align with your intended major at App State. Please note: You must complete your fall semester in good academic standing to maintain your admission for the spring term.

1. Enroll at a regionally accredited community college or four-year university

App State has mapped how specific courses transfer from every NC community college and also from many four-year schools. Regardless of where you choose to attend, apply there early to make sure that you have the best selection of courses.

2. Select courses

The major you pursue at App State may influence what courses you take. Having a major or two in mind is important.

  • Explore majors at appstate.edu/majors. Each major will have a program of study that will show you what courses are required.
  • Check out the Transfer Course Equivalency Search to see how courses transfer to App State from the institution you plan to attend.
  • Review the Transfer Guide for your intended major and base your fall schedule on classes listed in the guide. If you attend a NC community college, then the courses in the chart below are guaranteed to transfer into our general education program with a grade of C (2.0) or better in each individual course. You can learn more about general education requirements at transfer.appstate.edu/gened.

3. Make a plan

After reviewing these resources, you’ll be well equipped to make a preliminary plan. Explore what courses are offered at the institution you plan to attend before transferring to App State (a schedule should be posted on your school’s website). Create a possible course schedule that meets App State’s general education or degree requirements. Review an example below of a plan to attend a semester at an NC Community College.

Here are a few tips to consider when building your schedule:

  • App State’s General Education requirement includes four semester hours of math and eight semester hours of science courses. Some community college or four-year university courses are only three semester hours.

  • If you change your path and complete your associate degree before transferring to App State, our Transfer Guides will outline exactly which classes to take for your major in order to make your transfer as seamless as possible.

4. Meet with an Academic Advisor

If you attend a NC community college, your academic advisor there will help ensure that all of your courses transfer to App State. If you have any questions or attend an institution that is not a NC community college, be sure to set up an appointment with our transfer counselors to discuss your plan.

5. Complete Courses and Transfer Credit

Successfully complete all current and future college courses with a C (2.0) or better and be sure to remain in good academic standing to maintain your App State admission. Note: App State reserves the right to rescind admission, should a student fall out of good academic standing (students who transfer should have a cumulative college GPA of 2.25 or better when they begin at App State).

Send your official final transcript to App State (processing@appstate.edu) as soon as your final grades have posted. In the meantime, you should also notify the Office of Admissions of any courses you are in progress of taking before you enroll at App State. You can do so by clicking "Request an Update" in your MyMountaineer Portal.
