Review your enrollment checklist
Log-in to your MyMountaineer portal to access your enrollment steps. Each step is an important part to becoming an official Mountaineer.
Transfer students! Our Office of Transfer Services will assist you throughout the transfer process and during your academic and social journey at Appalachian.
- View your enrollment steps checklist for admitted transfer students.
- Understand your credit evaluation. (Note: Transfer students awaiting a credit evaluation and degree audit (Degree Works) will receive an email that their evaluation is complete within three weeks of admission.)
Access your @appstate.edu Email Account
Now that you’re admitted, you have been assigned an Appalachian email account.
- Establish your password. This will also be your password for your AppalNet Portal, the one-stop source for information and resources where you will have direct access to grades, registration information, parking, campus housing, financial aid and account information, including billing and payments.
- Log into your @appstate.edu email from anywhere via mail.google.com. Enter @appstate.edu after your username. On the next page, enter your username (without @appstate.edu) and your password. (Note: If you are already logged in to another Gmail account, you'll need to click "Add Account" in the top right of Gmail or "Sign in with a different username.")
- Check your @appstate.edu email often for important notifications from the Office of Student Financial Aid, Housing, Orientation and other on-campus partners.
Apply for Financial Aid
If you haven't already, file the FAFSA. Appalachian offers financial aid opportunities to help keep a college education within reach.
- Explore the types of financial aid available at Appalachian.
- Apply for financial aid using the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.
- Include Appalachian’s school code of 002906 and follow these steps to complete your FAFSA.
- Apply as early as possible! The FAFSA is available on October 1 each year. Students who complete the FAFSA by March 1 are given first consideration for need-based assistance and so we can have your aid ready before your tuition due date.
- This process takes time, so begin as soon as possible. The March 1 priority date means that the FAFSA must be completed by March 1, not just submitted. Changes may need to be made, additional documents may be requested and about 30% of applications are selected for verification which adds 3 or more weeks to the timeline. Allow yourself plenty of time to complete all these steps prior to March 1.
If you've submitted your FAFSA and included App, you'll see a Financial Aid tab in AppalNet. Click "My Eligibility" to see any missing requirements for financial aid and click "My Award Information" to view your financial aid package when it is awarded. If you don't see a Financial Aid tab, Appalachian has not yet received your FAFSA.

NearPeer:
Nearpeer is a unique app that allows you to meet all of the other new fall 2020 App State students. Nearpeer makes it easy and comfortable to find people “like you” who share common interests, experiences, majors, or hometown - or if you’d like, you can also connect with other new students who have different interests than you!
Once you confirm your enrollment, you will receive information on how to download the app and create a profile to start meeting other Mountaineers!
Apply for housing
Review housing options and apply by the deadline on your enrollment checklist. Consider locations, room styles, rates and opportunities like Residential Learning Communities as you select top choices. First-year and transfer students less than a year out of high school are required to live on campus (there are a few common exceptions). On-campus housing for transfers out of high school more than a year is granted on a space-available basis – we encourage these students to explore off-campus housing options.
Register for Orientation
Orientation formally introduces you to the Appalachian community and will help get you familiar with campus and resources available to you as a Mountaineer! These sessions are required and available on a first-come, first-served basis – sign up early to get your preferred session. Each session offers you the chance to learn your way around campus, meet with an academic advisor and faculty members, and finalize your first semester class schedule. Learn more and register in your portal! Parents, we’re hoping you can come too.
Pay tuition
You can always see current charges after registering for courses in the “Detail by Term” tab in AppalNet, and you’ll receive email notification of any bills. Only students who register for courses before the first billing date are subject to schedule cancellation; students that do not pay in full by the due date will be subject to late charges. There is a dedicated Parent Portal for parents to access after a student indicates this in AppalNet.
