Welcome to the 2nd edition of the 2022-2023 year for “The Mountaineer Inclusive”! You may be thinking, “what is The Mountaineer Inclusive?” This short newsletter provides up-to-date information on the admissions process and various events for future Mountaineers like you! This newsletter also provides the space to share what’s going on at App. We will highlight current students, staff, and faculty, share some amazing events happening on campus, and introduce clubs and organizations that help make App State an inclusive and welcoming place to be! Transfer Admissions & Engagement

Transfer Admissions & Engagement hosted our Mountaineer Military student veterans to enjoy the comradery of a tight-knit community that supports them with a variety of services and programs. Also, in recognition of military personnel and veterans, the university designates a home football game as Heroes Day, which caps off a special week of activities for Veterans Week in November.

Club and Org Events

LHA

The Latin Hispanic Alliance will be hosted their annual dance in November. The theme for this year’s dance was Latine Y2k, which took place at The Solarium in the Plemmons Student Union. Break out the low-rise jeans, lip liners, sunglasses, denim, etc!

Not only was there a dance but also a workshop in collaboration with App State Women’s Center and OASIS (Opposing Abuse with Service, Information and Shelter). The workshop covered Latine Communities and Violence and opens discussion to students about the patriarchal risk factors for violence. This event was also be held at the Plemmons Student Union.

The Black Student Association hosted a workshop on Safe Sex and Sexual Health! In collaboration with the Pi Nu Chapter of Alpha Phi Alpha, Fraternity Incorporated, both organizations invited App State’s Wellness and Prevention Center to conduct this workshop to inform and educate students on campus.

The Asian Student Association hosted its annual Charity Gala with the theme of Masquerade. This year Asian Student Association will be raising funds to support the Charity Stop AAPI Hate. Food was catered by Mint Indian Cuisine, along with a raffle in which you could have won many prizes. All proceeds were donated to Stop AAPI Hate.

Scholars with Diverse Abilities are back on campus! Parents and students also participated in the Spooky Duke Run which helped raise money for the Parent to Parent network organization. The Parent to Parent organization is a network providing support and information in the High Country to families with children that have a disability, behavioral issues, or a mental illness. They are stationed in the Reich College of Education building on campus!

AEPi and Hillel got together on Sanford Mall to pass out doughnuts for Hanukkah!

Many amazing activities and events happened at the Henderson Springs LGBTQ Center! As well as activities, there is plenty of educational content provided in the LGBTQ+ Center Instagram (@lgbtcenter_appstate).

The Counseling Center and LGBTQ+ Center collaborated in hosting a workshop! This workshop discussed mental health, and LGBTQ+ counselors discussed what happens at App State’s Counseling Center and what services are available to students on campus!

To end the semester, the LGBTQ+ center collaborated with the Women's Center and Multicultural Center to have a clothing swap in which students could donate clothes to boxes set up around campus to later on swap in the Plemmons Student Union.

Queen In You

Queen In You Presented its Annual Night Of Artistry event, a celebration of female-identifying artists! This event is dedicated to showcasing the extravagant arts and talents of the many Queens on campus! Light food and refreshments were offered and the event was held at the Plemmons Student Union. 

Along with a collaboration with the International Student Affairs Office, Queen In You hosted a panel discussion with the theme of The misogyny of women of color. This discussion opened up community discussion about what it means to be a woman of color in today’s society. This event was held at Belk Library here on campus.

National Pan-Hellenic Council & Multicultural Greek Council

NPHC and SGA (Student Government Association) collaborated in a discussion panel/town hall about racial disparities on App State’s campus. The main point of discussion is the new meal plan system and how it impacts App State students, specifically Black and Brown populations.

MGC helped the Beta Chi Chapter celebrate its Annual Founders week in November. Throughout this week there was different events each day to celebrate the founding of the only Latinx Sorority in App State.

The Omicron Kappa Chapter ladies hosted a game night open to students to destress themselves before final exams! Game night was hosted at the Plemmons Student Union.

The extraordinary ladies of Zeta Phi Beta hosted Prematurity Awareness Week. Throughout this week they raised awareness and funds for the March of Dimes, they also had their annual Cutest Baby Contest as well as their Purple Reign Campaign.
