Why I prefer living on campus

Appalachian State provides an awesome opportunity for students living on campus. I transferred in as a junior and lived on campus for my last two years of college. I’m glad I made that decision because it forced me to be more engaged with on-campus activities and to meet more people. My junior year, I lived in a Transfer Residential Learning Community (RLC) in Belk Hall.

I’m so glad this is where I lived because I met the people who have become my closest friends. The social atmosphere of my floor served as a great place to meet people, which made the experience a lot of fun.

Currently, I’m a senior living in Mountaineer Hall. I have a different roommate this year, but I still hangout with my friends from last year almost daily. Since Mountaineer is not an RLC, the atmosphere is more like living in an apartment. Living on campus provides the opportunity to be within walking distance to all of your classes, which is something I really like. I also enjoy the convenience of having a meal plan so I don't have to worry about what I’m going to eat or making trips to the grocery store.

I hope everyone enjoys their experience of living on campus as much as I have, good luck!
