Flood Watch

A Flood Watch has been issued by the National Weather Service for Watauga County effective 1 pm Friday, December 14 until 6 pm Saturday, December 15. This includes Appalachian State University. Excessive rainfall combined with the current snow cover may lead to areas of flooding, especially along creeks and streams. Have multiple ways to receive watch/warning information. Have a plan to move away from rising water. Continue to monitor the National Weather Service or local media for the latest weather forecast.

Working out when you come to college is essential to your health as a student. Many students come to college and assume they won’t have the time to workout, or that it will be inconvenient to their schedule. However, Appalachian State University has numerous facilities throughout campus for any kind of workouts, that are within walking distance from all dorms.

If you are living on East Campus there is a gym within Plemmons Student Union on the 3rd floor called the Mount Mitchell Fitness Center. This facility has weights and other various fitness equipment, as well as a multipurpose area for a variety of aerobic classes for students and faculty. West Campus offers two multipurpose areas for students, The Quinn Recreation Center and The Student Recreation Center. Both have basketball courts, cardio sections, and weights. The Quinn and SCR both have indoor soccer facilities for pickup games and intramurals, while the SRC has an aquatic center for swimming. The aquatic center also offers kayak lessons, and even waterboard aerobics.

No matter what type of workouts you enjoy, Appalachian has facilities and classes for everyone. I would definitely suggest trying all three to find the best one for your individual needs.
