As Appalachian becomes more competitive, every attempt is made to place as many students as possible in the Fall class. This year has brought an exceptionally competitive pool of applicants. Students accepted from the first decision deadline date had an average high school GPA of 4.16, an average SAT composite score of 1205, and an average ACT composite score of 27, as well as other excellent academic and leadership credentials.
While an applicant's academic record shows promise, the highly competitive nature of the freshman applicant pool necessitates that we place some students on a wait list. These students are still strong candidates for admission. All students who are placed on the wait list will be considered for admission in subsequent notification periods. All wait-listed students will receive written notification regarding our final admissions decision prior to April 26, 2013.When will I receive a final decision?
The Admissions Office will be mailing out final decision letters starting on April 15, 2013. All wait-listed students will receive a decision no later than April 26, 2013.Frequently Asked Questions
1) Are there different types of Wait List letters?
No, there is only one type of wait list letter. All students placed on this year's wait list will receive their final admission decision by April 26, 2013, or perhaps even sooner.
2) Is there a ranking to the Wait List, or can I find out where I stand in the Wait List?
No, there is not an exact ranking of students placed on the wait list and so it is impossible to determine where a student ranks on the wait list. Admission is determined as a result of multiple factors.
3) If I am currently on the wait list can I submit additional information and have my application reviewed again?
Yes. If you submit new additional information (most recent transcript – showing first semester grades, new test scores, resume or list of accomplishments, etc.) we will take all new factors and updated information into account when reevaluating your application file.
