Freshman Wait List

Appalachian State University aspires to be the destination institution for dedicated students who seek challenging academic programs and co-curricular experiences, engaged faculty and a vibrant campus culture that will shape them into engaged, responsible global citizens.

Appalachian attracts many well-rounded students each year, making admission increasingly competitive. As Appalachian becomes more competitive, the admission committee carefully considers all applicants and makes every effort to admit as many students as possible to the fall class. This year has brought an exceptionally competitive pool of applicants.

The highly competitive nature of the freshman applicant pool necessitates that we place some students on a wait list. Students who are placed on the wait list are strong candidates for admission with impressive credentials. All wait-listed students will be carefully considered for admission in subsequent notification periods.

Frequently Asked Questions

1) Is there a ranking to the wait list, or can I find out where I stand in the wait list?
No, there is not an exact ranking of students placed on the wait list, so it is impossible to determine where a student ranks on the wait list. Admission is determined as a result of multiple factors.

2) If I am currently on the wait list, can I submit additional information and have my application reviewed again?
Yes. If you submit new additional information (most recent transcript – showing new grades, new test scores, résumé or list of accomplishments, etc.) we will take all new factors and updated information into account when reevaluating your application file.
