Perspective freshman are required to submit SAT or ACT scores, including the writing portion included. Students at least 24 years old may be exempt from score requirements. Learn more.
  • Transfer requirements: Transfer applicants have graduated from high school and attended, or are currently enrolled in, a two or four-year college, and wish to transfer to in order to earn a Bachelor's degree. Students can transfer with 30 transferable hours, if they met minimum course requirements in high school. If those requirements were not met, a specific set of classes will be required for transfer. Transfer Credit

The awarding of credit varies from college to college, depending on how similar the class curriculum at the respective college is to the curriculum at Appalachian. To determine if your college and or university classes will transfer, please use the transfer course search. If you don't find your course(s) on the transfer course search, that doesn't mean they don't transfer. Please contact Admissions if you have any questions about courses that are not listed on the course search.

Depending on your needs, we can award up to 6 hours of "military science" credit and two hours of General Education Wellness Literacy credit.

We also accept and review transfer credit from Army/American Council on Education and SMART transcripts, and will award any transferable credit to the student’s record. We follow the recommendation for ACE for upper division level credit.

To learn more, visit the Office of Transfer Articulation.

Distance Education

Appalachian offers a wide variety of transfer distance education degree programs at the undergraduate level and both degree and certificate programs at the graduate level. Programs are offered at sites/locations across western North Carolina and online.

Please note that all of Appalachian's undergraduate distance education programs offer only the upper division coursework, so prospective applicants should insure that they have completed the required minimum lower division coursework at one or more regionally accredited institutions before seeking admission.
